We’re Supporting Fire Door Safety Week
Overview
Well maintained and correctly installed fire doors are an essential part of a building’s passive fire protection, saving lives and protecting property. That’s why we’re proud to be supporting Fire Door Safety Week to raise awareness of the importance of properly fitted and maintained fire doors which effectively compartmentalise a building in the event of a fire, providing a safe route for occupants to leave and emergency services to enter.
What is Fire Safety Week?
Fire Safety Week was launched in 2013 to tackle a lack of awareness about the need to install fire doors correctly and check them at regular intervals to make sure they are up to the job. The campaign runs from 21st to 27th September 2020 and aims to educate and engage property owners and occupants in the proper use and vital role of fire doors. Follow the campaign at #FireDoorSafetyWeek or visit the website https://www.firedoorsafetyweek.co.uk/
Why are fire doors important?
When a fire breaks out, fire doors delay the spread of smoke and fire, buying time for people to exit the building safely and for emergency services to gain access quickly.
What can go wrong?
Poor installation and maintenance can mean that fire doors won’t stop fire from spreading. Many property owners and contractors still don’t understand the correct specification or how to check and monitor the installation, operation and maintenance of fire doors.
What can be done to improve safety?
Building owners and users should regularly check the operation and condition of their fire doors. Any that fail to meet the required standards should be reported and repaired as a matter of urgency.
GoReport has developed dedicated software that makes it easy for surveyors and fire safety assessors to create custom and off-the-shelf Fire Door Healthcheck Reports. These reports identify damage to doors, sub-standard installation and issues such as gaps and missing seals which could allow smoke and fire to pass through. They make it easy for surveyors to make recommendations for remedial work and to include photographs and extra notes to help the property owner resolve the problems quickly.
